Darkly compelling horror that you want to look away from - but can't!
Review (no spoilers)
This is a great movie, which pushes your levels of comfort. I felt very uneasy watching some of the brilliantly 'home movies'. And it's almost impossible to re-watch the film on your own without questioning your morals. The excellent music adds a chilling and disorientating feel to the movie.
The film has a great storyline and is very well made. The acting is good and the film ticks along at a good pace. There are a few jump scares, but the main feeling is of aberration and squirm inducing unease.
If you're worried that my description makes it sound like some torture porn, exploitative film - worry not. It's not that at all, but it is darkly compelling and uncomfortable in places. The title is the most apt description of the content.
My only issue with this film is that, like many horrors, it goes a bit too far towards the end. It pulls it back though and the ending itself is very good. Plus the antagonist's name makes it less threatening.
Definitely one to watch - through the gaps between your fingers!
