Fearter rating: 8/10
This movie freaks me out, my recurring nightmare played out on the screen!
Review (no spoilers)
Here, in the UK, it seems to me that this film is underrated, forgotten by time and it never really made the impression it should. It's never on TV and wasn't very well known amongst my friends and family (until I pestered them into watching it).
This movie plays out everyone's fears one by one. From death to despair; from helplessness to hopelessness; missed opportunities to imprisonment. It's all there and done in a scary, haunting and sinister way. A psychological horror that builds perfectly and reflects the heart dropping feeling of nightmares.
I remember going to see this movie in an almost empty cinema. The only other couple in the place left when it started getting scary. We stayed however, and I found it very unnerving as I watched a recurring nightmare of mine play out on the screen! Not only that, having watched this movie several times, I can confirm that it is just as scary when watched on a TV screen!
Why it doesn't score higher? Like many horror films, there are instances where it goes a bit too far and the end could be stronger.
All in all, I really like this movie - it scares me (both in a jumpy way and psychologically) and the building of the terror is fantastic. I think it's definitely worth watching over and over again. Although I may be watching alone.
